I'm Chris Garrett, the heart and soul behind Phantom Surfboards. My journey began in 1979, shaping boards by hand for the pure joy of it, for myself and a close circle of friends. By 1980/81, Phantom Surfboards took its first breath in the surf-rich air of Bolton Street, Kirra, and has been my life's work and passion since 1984.

At Phantom Surfboards, every board is a personal narrative, a crafted tale of surf dreams and desires. It's about shaping joy and stoking out not just myself, but countless others through the years. My drive comes from the waves themselves, the relentless pursuit of design innovation, where the horizon of possibility stretches as far as the ocean before me.

My focus has always been the everyday surfer, the one chasing their next peak performance, their next wave. Even so, some of the world's top pros have carved their path to victory on my boards. Nick Wallace and Dave 'Rasta' Rastovich both clinched junior world titles with Phantom under their feet, and Neridah Falconer claimed the Hawaiian Triple Crown. I've had the honor of collaborating with legends like Kieren Perrow, Andy Irons, Dean Morrison, and a host of others, aiding them in honing their craft.

Today, I am thrilled to nurture the next generation of surf talent, guiding young guns like Josh Grange and his brother Locky, alongside my steadfast companion in surf, James Billy Watson. My hands and soul are in every curve and contour of the boards I shape, and in 2009, I embraced the precision of digital with the AKU shaping platform. This leap forward allowed me to refine my hand-shaped classics and break new ground in design, unbound by traditional methods.

This has allowed my customers to individually fine tune their boards so they can surf with the freedom that they're looking for and to share in the stoke that has kept me frothing for all these years.... open hearted, open minded and ready for the next challenge...let's play!
